Original uploaded files need separate verification
Markdown exports can preserve readable conversation content, code and available Artifact data, but a link or filename is not an original binary attachment.
Open a small test export and separately save any original files that you need to keep.
Project folders are not automatically reconstructed
Batch-exported conversations are saved according to download and filename settings; this is not a full recreation of Claude Project instructions or folders.
Organize Markdown notes by Project in your vault and keep an official account-data archive when necessary.

Can I export Claude chats to Markdown for Obsidian?
Yes. Open a Claude conversation, choose Save to Markdown, then move the downloaded .md file into your Obsidian vault. For larger archives use Bulk Export and review filenames and content after saving.
Does Claude to Obsidian export JSON, plain text or PDF?
This standalone extension exports Markdown files for Obsidian. It is not a JSON/TXT/PDF exporter. For a readable PDF, use the separate Claude to PDF extension; for multiple destination choices, compare our Claude Export Hub.
Will it recreate Claude Project folders and all original files?
No automatic per-Project folder creation is demonstrated in the documented Markdown workflow. You can organize files by Project in Obsidian yourself. Artifact content, images and attachments depend on what is available from Claude; review important assets after exporting.
How do I backup my entire Claude conversation history?
Use the Bulk Export feature in the extension options page. It allows you to export multiple conversations at once, creating a complete local backup of your Claude chat history.
Does it work with Obsidian?

What happens if a file already exists?
You can choose the conflict action: 'uniquify' (adds a number suffix), 'overwrite' (replaces the file), or 'prompt' (asks you each time). Configure this in settings.
Can I export multiple conversations at once?
Yes. The Bulk Export feature in the options page allows you to select and export multiple conversations in one operation.
Is my data secure?
Absolutely. Everything happens locally in your browser. Files are saved directly to your Downloads folder. We never send your conversation data to any external servers.
Do I need an API key?
No. The extension works directly with the Claude web interface. No API keys or additional authentication required.

Free users can export up to 5 conversations per day. This includes both single exports and bulk exports combined.
